The struggle of adulting is real
If you ever wondered why you can’t seem to “catch-up” with your peers growing up, I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you because that won’t change once you’ve entered the “world of adults”. In fact it only becomes harder because the main big change that happens once you hit the age of 18 is that the list of things to do only increases. So if you were falling behind then chances are you’ll fall behind even more. It’s a sad truth but let me put your mind at ease: it’s not a race you were supposed to win to begin with! You weren’t born to be perfect, you were born to live and living requires the freedom of choice (which in turn means trade-offs), you can’t enjoy one thing without having to sacrifice another. As long as you’re aware of this, there’s no catching up for you to do because then you’re blazing your own trail in life.
In essence that’s the upside of adulting: Children need to walk on ‘the most travelled by’ path because it’s safe. Adults get to make their own path, some might make it a mix between the safe path and their own more dangerous path others completely abandon the safe path and go for the unknown curious of what lies beyond the safe path.
The downside is that you’re no longer a minor, you’re a minor and an adult on top of it! You even lose the ‘perks’ that you enjoyed as a minor such as more tolerance and understanding, guidance and safety and last but not least the forgiveness and lenience of the pack when you’ve tested the many many laws that you’re not allowed to break (realize that this isn’t for every society the case!).
In other words you fulfill both the role of child and adult. You, as adult, need to protect the you, as a child, by doing certain daily chores (something your parents used to do for you -if they were good parents-) and the you, as a child needs to understand why you can’t just relax and do what you want on a daily basis. The result is independence and freedom.
As an adult you get to create your own environment, manage your own health, develop your own skills and create your own circle of safety. These skills are essential to acquire because these skills will dictate how independent and how free you’ll be in your life, not just as an adult but as a human being.
I hope this website will help you in your journey to acquire these skills and help you practice them.
